Troubleshooting

We made the best effort to make this game as easy to install and use and as bug free as possible. However, considering the fact that there are practically as many different hardware and software system configurations as there are computer users, some of you may encounter problems while installing and running DDD Pool.
On this page you will find possible solutions to most common problems. If you have a problem that is not listed here, see the note on the bottom of this page.
We will answer every support request and will do our best to help you get DDD Pool up and running.

I get an error "This application has failed to start because d3d8.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problems".
You probably don't have DirectX 8 installed on your computer. Please click here to visit Microsoft's web site to download latest DirectX components.

What is DirectX?
Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. DirectX version 9.0c includes security and performance updates. Latest version of DirectX is available from Microsoft website.

I get an error "Could not initialize D3D Device". What is wrong?
Try installing the latest graphics card drivers. Below is a list of common graphics card manufacturers. Choose the one that matches your hardware:

  • nVidia (TNT2, GeForce family, Quadro, etc.)
  • ATI (Radeon series, x800...)
  • SiS 645, 745
  • Matrox (G400, Parhelia)
  • Intel

After choosing video settings, the game stops before playing the intro.
If you have ffdshow codec installed, try uninstalling it and running the game again.

Game runs slowly or animation is "jumpy"?
Try adjusting Ball Display Detail level and screen resolution to match your graphics adapter. Large number of predefined ball details can be set to suit most graphics adapters on market. Also, select the empty environment with no walls and furniture.

If this doesn't solve your problem running DDD Pool, please e-mail us at [email protected] stating as much information as you can get about your system and the problem itself. One of the best ways to do this is to click on the "Start" button, press "R" (Run), type "dxdiag" and press ENTER, click on the "Save All Information" button and email us the "dxdiag.txt" file produced this way. This file will contain specific technical information about your computer, it does not contain any personal information.
